From Shock to Hope in Vietnam: Vy’s Clubfoot Story

MiracleFeet partners with Mobility Outreach International (MOI) to help children born with clubfoot in Vietnam access treatment. MOI has worked in Vietnam since 1989 and began treating clubfoot there in 2006. MiracleFeet began a partnership with MOI in 2017 to help children receive treatment at clinics in Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi.
Vy is one of the nearly 2,000 children born with clubfoot each year in Vietnam. Vy’s parents, from District 9 of Ho Chi Minh City, were shocked after they went to the doctor for a routine ultrasound and learned that the child they were expecting was going to be born with bilateral clubfoot. Fortunately, only four days after Vy was born, the baby girl was referred to the physiotherapy department of thehospital. It was there that Vy’s parents learned about clubfoot, and that it was treatable. They immediately began casting appointments and continue to follow the doctor’s advice carefully so that Vy can live a life free of disability as she grows and learns to walk.
