Ready to Run: Uday’s Story

When nine-month-old Uday was born with bilateral clubfoot in Liberia, his parents did not know what the condition was. Fortunately, the hospital where Uday’s mom gave birth recognized the condition and directed the family to FACORC in the capital city of Monrovia. There, Uday is being treated by MiracleFeet’s partners at the Liberia Clubfoot Program (LCP)exterior of green and white clay building that says Liberia Clubfoot Program Transit Home

Uday’s father describes his fearlessness. As the casts are removed, Uday reaches for the tool the provider is using to cut the gauze! “He is crawling and is a very active child,” says his dad. “He even tries to stand up and take his casts off! He bangs on them like a drum,” he says, smiling.

We’re so glad Uday found treatment and will be ready to run soon.

The staff at LCP in Monrovia and throughout Liberia work hard to spread awareness of the condition so that parents and healthcare providers can recognize it early on in a child’s life. They even go out into the streets to directly educate the community on the condition and its treatment. Uday’s journey shows the importance of awareness-building. Because the providers at the hospital where Uday was born knew about clubfoot, he received treatment early and will be able to walk without pain or disability.
